Meet the man who is going to fire himself into space to see if the world is flat
Adventure is a funny thing. Back in the day adventurers were seen as pioneers, global gallivanters that filled in the gaps in maps. They trekked, sailed, climbed and conquered, attempting to uncover the veil of the globe and pass back their stories to the masses.
But adventure has lost its way. Wannabe explorers are running out of things to explore, the already explored is offered up on a travel all-you-can-eat platter ready for you to scoff your fucking face off with cultural delights until it’s ruined, forever, for everyone.
We’ve forgotten what it means to ‘Adventure’. We’ve been tricked into thinking it’s going to the place in the picture, just to get the same picture, with a different face in it. Your face. Your stupid bloody face. What’s the fucking point?
But don’t fret. There are still real adventurers out there and we are on a mission to find them and bring them to you. They’re foolhardy daredevils who refuse to take reality as read. They want to craft their own version of the world by inventing, developing and searching for new ways in which to explore the planet. They’re idiots, visionaries….pioneers. They’re Adventurists.
In the first of what we hope is many, this month we bring you ‘Mad Mike Hughes’. Mad Mike is a daredevil, a hunter of danger who’s idea of a stunt is to fire himself into the edge of space to see for himself if the world is flat. Why? Because Googling it is just too easy.
We spoke to Mad Mike last year just before his launch in a test rocket as part of his Flat Earth Project. The launch was a success but many people were confused thinking it WAS the launch that would allow him to see the curvature of the Earth. It wasn’t. It was just a test.
In this interview, you will learn why people in their 20’s can’t do anything good, how many times Mad Mike broke his back jumping a limousine and how Evil Kenevil fucked up his space travel ambitions. Enjoy.
