And then they were off – well most of them anyway… the velvety
smooth motorways of Europe proved too much for some!
| After the incredible launch from Hyde Park the teams snaked through central London wobbling past the city landmarks, waving to her Majesty as they pass Buckingham Palace and doffing caps to Big Ben, it set the stage for the journey that would start as a sightseeing tour and end up in mountains, deserts and wild open steppe! The following first few days then served up a stark reminder that if you choose adventure as your mistress, anything can happen! Team Mongolian Job lost their head gasket in Belgium after only 12 hours of driving. After hitching (with the Mini!) to Luxemburg, they got the green beastie fixed for free, only to find that it could not quite overcome the concrete barriers of the Czech Republic. As if such minor obstacles could stop our intrepid ralliers, the hardy team continued by train and plane to Volgograd, where they carried on with The Firey Disco Panda of Mirth team. Four in a panda for the rest of the journey – lovely. Another victim of Europe’s highways was Built By Students whose armored steed also met an early end in the Czech Republic - no doubt they’ll be back again! For most however, Europe was a breeze and a good number arrived on Sunday in the Czech Republic dressed as Knights and Wenches and ready for the party at Klenova Castle. | |
