Adventuring through an intense heat wave and the traditional plethora of breakdowns, the Rickshaw Run Spring 09 teams are gradually wobbling their way towards the finish line in Goa. Updates are flowing into the website about major breakdowns, crashing weddings (in a nice way), police escorts and other high level adventure related shenanigans! Team Indian-apolos 500 sent this update from Karnataka: “Last 100km! Rickshaw has been sounding like a sack of spanners all day but we reckon she'll make it!” A mild update from the field considering this earlier update: “Broken down in the middle of nowhere. Had to hitch a lift in a truck and back on a motorbike with a man who fixes exhausts with string! Bodgetastic!” Team Thamiz Siblings have had a rough ride and experienced perhaps more than their fair share of breakdowns, saying that after a series of classic Rickshaw Run repair jobs they said they “…hope beast won't fall in 2 pieces b4 the weekend”. Perhaps summing up much of the adventurism currently playing out across India, team Shillong, Farewell sent this update to the website: “Another 15 hour day on the road with progress disrupted by mechanical failures … Rickshaws are toiling in the heat which got up to 46 degrees C yesterday. Arrived into Jalgaon properly filthy and exhausted after over two hours of nightsdriving. The hot wind from the west is relentless. Off to see the Ellora Caves today after a wonderful 7 hour sleep.” For team Baba G things are looking a bit more rosy though, apart from being hungry: “We only have 350 km to go and we have been on the dusty trail for 12 days .. It's been an amazing adventure and we have met a lot of great people but it's 8:30 pm and we haven't had dinner or lunch today and we will be off to bed soon for an early start.” To see pictures from the road click here
