Party at the Palace report: the Rickshaw Runners leave no beer undrunk...

By Dan Wedgwood

The next three Rickshaw Runs are now full up; the next sign up for Spring 2011 will be in March if you fancy some three wheeling adventuring. We'll send all the info to the mailing list.

One of the many reasons they go down so well is the rather gargantuan parties at the beginning and end of each adventure. The Adventurists' man on the ground, Mr Matt, has sent in this report about the Winter 2010 finish line party that was held not only in a palace, but a palace on an island that you travel to by boat. Splendid. And just in case it doesn't become obvious as you read, this party report was written by Mr. Matt himself:

The twinking fairy lights created a magical glow over the magnificent edifice of the old Dutch palace. Once the boats pulled up to the jetty the mob instanly drew themselves towars the bar and  an unforgettable evening.

After a brief but to the point speech from the handsome / talented / sexy / intelligent / sauve / sofisticated / funny / irresistable Matt, the snack bar opened and the traditional cultural show began.

At first we were bewitched by ladies dancing, then gob-smacked by the flying acrobatics of the martial arts experts before finally being strangely amazed by the kathakali performance.

After this the DJ got things going for a while by spinning some magic, and then we stuffed our faces on a veritable banquet of delights. Really - the food was awesome. Once the food was pretty much done it was time for the awards, bring on Jitu to present....

Best pimping: Tux Tuk

Legends of the run: Chicken Run

Charity fundraising winners: Chasing Souse.

All three teams thoroughly and totally deserved the amazing trophies we'd had made (gold sprayed rickshaws mounted on polished wood with nice shiny brass plates).....

Then of course there was Niraj's gift. Papa rickshaw was a little dumbstruck and got slightly choked up. The all-time legend of the rickshaw run. Gutted he's leaving. [Niraj has been The Adventurists Head of India Branch since the first run in 2006 but sadly for us is now moving abroad – more to come on this legendary fellow soon].

After another breathtaking speech from Matt, the DJ got it going again.

As it slowly dissintegrated into a beautiful mess Jitu polished off all the beers, miscreants discovered the pool (only a matter of time), and before we knew it there were naked people everywhere. The first boat left as the remainder decided to deteriorate the already daft state. After complaints from some people staying at the hotel - the music had to be turned down.....oh...and we'd drank the bar dry - a fairly formiddable 400+ beers gone...and that's not including the wine.......

Overall, a smashing time.
