Mongol Rally Halfway Update

By Andy Place

The Live Updates are still flooding into the official tracking page – which has had a makeover with new widgety gadgety things that make it look really rather flash. Even if we do say so ourselves.

While some teams are still trying to locate their cars/passports/team members after the mother of all parties at CzechOut at Klenova Castle others have started arriving at the Mongolian borders in record time.

High temperatures and long border crossings seem to be the order of the day for most of the teams with team Gin'll Fix It reporting 'Highest temp recorded today was 44deg...'

Team The Generation Game are also experiencing all that border delays and heat can throw at them 'Sitting at the uzbek-kazakh border after an exciting night time drive and barely sleeping in the car for a couple of hours. Typical border, no one moving and no obvious reason. Baking heat. Sad to leave uzbekistan but cracking on now towards russia and mongolia- once we clear the border!'

Other teams have more important things on their minds however - Team Cuddy Munters sent the following plea in to the update page 'please can someone text us the cricket score, the last we knew was 116 for 2 so i think were out of the loop'!

Team Die Pescheks have an altogether different problem, as reported in their SMS update on the 2nd August - 'we had to leave astana because dirty cars are not allowed in the city... As muddy as our cars we are now on the way to the russian border.'

Team MongAllwoods are reporting similar grime related updates 'are suntans supposed to wash off? Hmmm it may be time for sum clean pants again!'
