Jungley and splendid with cake-fights - the Rickshaw Run Winter 2009 party!

By Dan Wedgwood

‘Twas a ‘jungley’ and ‘splendid’ party involving ‘cake fights’ according to the mighty teams. A result of cunning timing from The Adventurists, the Winter 2009 Rickshaw Run launch party is also New Year’s Eve!

Having picked up their pimped Rickshaws, it was all aboard for buses to the rather special waterside party venue in the backwaters of Pondicherry last night.

The Tourism Department of Pondicherry had helped to arrange decoration of the venue, a huge cake, traditional classical Indian dancers, a troupe of drummers and even a fireworks display to celebrate midnight. A feast of South Indian food was devoured by the teams and much back slapping and adventurist bonding commenced.

Andrew from team Rick Dangerous said in his blog:

“…then there was the great New Years Eve party, which involved cake fights, excessive amounts of kingfisher beer, and then high fiving half the population of Puducherry. Oh, and Gareth patted about 3 random street dogs. Nice.”

And John from team Madcap Blunderbus clearly enjoyed the festivities:

“The kind folks in charge of the Rickshaw Run event threw us all a splendid party … we had it in a sort of jungle-ly area about 8 km outside of Pondy.

“It was great to finally get all of the teams together into one place so we could all mingle with each other without having to just bump into them on the street.

“We all got flower necklaces and got blessed on the way in. There was free food and classical indian dancing. There was a bar. There were fireworks. There was cake throwing. There was a techno dance floor. Pretty much everything you need. It was good enough in fact that my teammate John and I didn't really hang out together very much. We split up and met as many teams as we could.

“I could go into all the great people I met and the things we talked about but it would really mean much to you because you don't know them. So I won't.”
