Take an electrified transport icon of 19th century India and wobble across Assam from the swampy chaos of Mayong’s forests, to the delightful tea plantations of Dibrugarh. You really are likely to get stuck on this one, particularly when you try going uphill. But you can have a nice cup of Earl Grey when you’ve got yourself across the finish line. Here’s all the information you need to round up a fellow fool and join the fray.

## The un-route

- START

Mayang, Assam.
- FINISH

Dibrugarh, Assam.
- DISTANCE

500km (ish)
- TIME

1 day of test driving, 8 days on the road.Your first stop is the village of Mayang, on the banks of the mighty Brahmaputra River. Mayang is steeped in legends of sorcery, vanishing acts and people being turned into animals. We can’t guarantee that these things won’t happen to you - it is an adventure after all. And in any case, we think its dark forests and swampy marshlands are the perfect place to get lost and probably quite stuck on an electro-wallah. So even if you do go home as a one-horned Rhino (also commonplace in this region) we think you’ll have had a jolly good time doing so.

> Awesome people, and good variety of routes and roads. The part up through the Kaziranga wildlife Park was sketchy as f**k to say the least, especially at night with low / no battery, big trucks and things with big teeth lurking around.

Clint S, March 2026

To avoid the perilous situation where you develop a false sense of ease and comfort, the 2027 Wallah Run will include a pitstop in some hills. This will force you and your team mate to coax your electro-machine upwards, at an angle it is intensely unhappy about. We haven't decided exactly where to put the pitstop yet, but we’ll be thoroughly researching the Karbi Anglong Highlands (also known as the Mikir Hills) to see if it destroys enough drivetrains. Rest assured, there will be cold (ish) drinks, a mechanic with a hammer and an excellent view of everyone's regrets thus far.

From there, you’ll wobble back down into the Brahmaputra Valley, where you'll try to convince your electro-shaw that it can make it to the finish line. There is the option of travelling by boat across the river should you wish to explore the north side of the valley, or you develop insurmountable doubts about your steed.

- The un-route

> The opportunity to cross river on those s**t boats and go on a safari mid-run made that route pretty special.

Tim W, March 2026

After 500 kilometers of furious pedalling, Dibrugarh, the tea capital of India is your final stop. Surrounded by Assam tea plantations, it’s all rather civilised compared to the swampy forests of the start line. Perfect for reflecting on your electro-escapades as you sip genteelly on a cup of Earl Grey tea. Splendid.

#### Refundable Vehicle Deposit

We take a refundable vehicle deposit of £300 per team, due about a month before the launch.

The deposit is fully refundable and deductions will only be made if the electro-wallah is seriously damaged or if there are bits missing. If you don't bring it to the finish line we'll need to use some of your deposit to recover it. So it's best, and cheaper, to get it there yourself.

We understand the wallah bikes will take a bit of a kicking because we've been running these adventures since 2006, so we don't deduct anything for normal wear and tear. We'd rather not have to take a deposit at all but it's a boring necessity, so we do our best to make it as painless as possible.

## The electro-wallah

Below are some detailed specifications of the electro-wallah. Before you delve into that level of detail, please note that it has 3 wheels, can carry up to 2 people (including whoever is doing the pedalling) and has limited space for luggage. Perfect for adventuring across Assam we feel.

#### Wallah bike specs

- Make & model:

Electro-Wallah, She-Ra 3000.
- Hub Motor:

Frustratingly underpowered.
- Gears:

One. (But it's a really good one). (Not really).
- Power:

Pedals.
- Range:

This depends heavily on the terrain and how hard you're pushing your bike. It could be anywhere between 10 and 100 kilometers. Some of our pioneers managed 100 kilometers on good roads and none of them only got 10 kilometers.
- Charging time:

You'll find you can top up your electro-steed over a spot of lunch in about an hour or so, but for a proper charge to see you through the next day of adventuring, you'll need to charge it overnight.
- Top speed:

About 20 kilometers an hour, maybe up to 30 kilometers an hour if you're going downhill or pedalling really hard.
- Weight:

Irritatingly heavy to push uphill.

> At first, death trap. But once we got use to them, great fun!

Thoughts on the electro-wallah from Mr Clint, Wallah Run Pioneer, March 2026

- The electro-wallah

## Pimp my electro-wallah

Nothing screams sexy more than your very own electro-wallah proudly sporting your very own whip flag, some flower garlands and several packets of spicy peanuts (which double up as dinner should you get stuck).

It’s a pretty easy look to achieve. You can find the flower garlands and spicy peanuts once you're in Assam, but we’ll supply you with a digital flag template beforehand. You can then use photoshop or some other graphics editing software to decorate said design. If you’re not too handy with a computer then you can print the template out and decorate it with crayons, marker pens or bodily fluids if needs be. Once you’re done then scan the printout or take a photo of it and send it back to us.

We’ll then get our graphic designer in India to make it into a ruddy great flag to mount upon your wallah and bam, one pimped electro-wallah. Very detailed designs can sometimes get a bit lost. Best to go big, and bold. Like Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson.

Bear in mind, they’ll make the flag exactly as per your design, which means if you make a mistake, it will also appear on your flag.

You can even take the flag home with you come the end of your adventure to adorn your living room wall for years to come.

## Driving license & insurance

#### Driving License

You don't need a driving license for this one, because it's basically just a three-wheeled, electric assisted bike. However, we would strongly encourage you to have basic to intermediate knowledge of traffic and roads. India's roads can be chaotic, and although you'll be seeking out the dirt tracks, there will be times you need to use the bigger roads or highways. So some sort of cycling proficiency might be beneficial if you don't have a full driving license.

#### Travel & Medical Insurance

You'll need travel insurance that covers you for exactly what you're doing and exactly where you're going. Don't scrimp on this one. We might make the odd joke about how dangerous this all is, but when the shit really hits the fan you'll want decent medical and legal cover as an absolute minimum, including emergency repatriation to your home country.

Imagine how proud your family will be when they get a $50,000 hospital bill because you were too lazy to do a bit of boring paperwork for your adventure. Then go do and sort the boring paperwork instead.

## Saving the world a bit

Not only is the Wallah Run an industrial dose of adventure, it’s also about Saving the World. We ask every team to raise a minimum of £500 for the official charity [Cool Earth](https://www.coolearth.org), who work alongside indigenous villages to halt rainforest destruction.

Anything above this can be raised for any other registered charity of your choice.

#### Why?

We need to save every rainforest in the world so future generations have somewhere to get stuck. Not because we’re tree hugging sandal weavers, but because the world would be shit without them. It’s not about the carbon off twatting, the point is rainforests are indescribably excellent.

#### HOW DO WE RAISE THE CASH?

You've got until 4 weeks after the end of your adventure to raise the minimum amount of £500. Teams often raise the most cash while they're on the road and just after they get back, but it's wise to start your campaign early. Especially if you intend to collect your money like in the olden-days using a pen, some paper and a pot for all that analogue money they used to have.

If you don't raise £500 by the deadline, unfortunately you will go to hell. Together with Cool Earth we give you tips and resources to help you try to avoid this. Then 4 weeks after the finish line party we will pester you for your final total. Don't panic, we won’t set any dogs on you, or force you to sell your mum. We will however, be very, very disappointed.

## The warning

Not only are you driving a very unsuitable vehicle on sometimes bad and chaotic roads in a very remote part of the world, you're also doing this in a relatively new type of adventure machine. This means there are things that may not have been anticipated or happened upon by our Pioneers. You might be the first to stumble upon such things.

This is a genuinely dangerous thing to do.

The website is written in a light-hearted fashion but you cannot overestimate the risks involved in taking part in this adventure.
