The rather awesome FRANK Water Projects have been doing marvellous things with clever filters in India, and now they are taking their clean water projects to Ghana.
The Adventurists are already supporting FRANK projects via the mighty teams taking part in the Rickshaw Run, so their decision to begin working in Africa worked out nicely with the launch of the first ever Adventurists Africa Rally.
1 billion peolple worldwide lack access to clean drinking water, 2.2 million people die every year from dirty water related disease affecting mainly under 5’s. Women and children walk miles and spend hours collecting dirty water. Old pumps, boreholes and wells are often contaminated.
FRANK Water Projects will be working in partnership with Water Health International (technologists) and World Vision Ghana (local NGO) funding and implementing community clean water projects.
It will cost £6749 for the capital costs of building each of the clean water facilities. Villagers also contribute to build costs for commitment and ownership. Other costs - for example education, sanitation, maintenance and operator salaries - are carried by the local NGO and income from sale of water which is set as affordable by the local NGO - which creates a sustainable project.
