And they are off, but will anyone make it?

By Tom Morgan

The ever present spectre of bureaucracy reared it's ugly head causing delays after our original Moto supplier left us in the lurch. The first brave batch of teams set forth on Thursday with the next due to leave first thing on Saturday morning. But will anyone make it to the other end?

The Mayor of Huancayo held a fantastic welcome for us as the first batch of teams set forth into the adventure...well not quite. The launch began and and the teams were cheered off down the high street, just in time to go back to the park to wait for more paperwork. Finally they set off and the chaos of the world's first Mototaxi Junket began.

The Andes are big and the mototaxis are not just small but totally unsuitable. They struggle in a straight line, they struggle on corners, they struggle up anything resembling a hill. Could this be the toughest adventure yet?

After day one we have already seen breakdowns, a minor crash into a wall and one moto flying off the edge of the road into a river never to be seen again! (they were fine). The Andes, the jungles and the salt flats still lye in wait for our junketeers.
