251 teams set off in July this year to take on the beast that is the Mongol Rally, and a massive 79% of teams made it all the way to the finish line in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
Despite the mountains and deserts that stood in their way, many mighty ralliers crossed the line in 2008. Although the rally is not about reaching the finish, more the trouble you get into along the way, the stories of teams pitching in together to keep everyone going warms ones cockles. Perhaps some more mountains and deserts are needed!
Number of teams: 251
Teams who made it: 198
Made it to Mongolia then retired before the finish line: 27
Retired before reaching Mongolia: 26
Where did the ones who dropped out all end up?
Of the three launch cities – London, Madrid and Milan, it was the Spanish teams who did the best job of making it all the way to the end. Of course it’s not really about the finish line, but we feel compelled to doff our hats to our Spanish friends who set out from Madrid. Of the 45 teams, 85% of them crossed the line for a cold one in UB.
A full list of the teams and who got where will be posted in the history section when the website switches over to the mighty 2009 Mongol Rally teams. This section will cater for all tastes, entertaining those of you who like the gory stuff about disasters and the tallest of adventure tales and those among us who are aspiring geeks and just can’t get enough of lists and stats about who did what!
